Xochitepec


WHAT MEANS XOCHITEPEC?
Xochitepek whose etymological roots come from xochi-tl "flower"; tepe-tl, "hill" and k contraction of ko adverb of "place", means: "On the hill of flowers," possibly it refers to the reliefs of the pyramids which are located, one at mile 92 of the highway Mexico-Acapulco, and other in the center of town that serves as a base of support to the pedestal of the public clock.



GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION
Xochitepec Township is located at west of the State and geographically is located at 18° 4' north latitude and 99 ° 11' west longitude at an altitude of 1.109 meters over sea level.
It’s bordered on the north by Temixco and Cuernavaca; on the south by Puente de Ixtla; on the east by Emiliano Zapata and Tlaltizapán and on the west by Miacatlán.
Total area of ​​Xochitepec is 99.13 Km². Its territorial percentage in relation with the State of Morelos is just 2%.

HISTORY
During the eighteenth century the Spanish who lived Temixco took lands to Xochitepec, so it was reducing its territorial area. In 1856 the Chiconcuac Treasury (Xochitepec municipality) was sacked by the soldiers of Alvarez (Los Pintos).
In 1847 in the town of Xochitepec a geological phenomenon occurred (severe earthquake) and the Mexican Society of Geography and Statistics sent to Mr. Santiago Ramirez and Mario Barcena to make a survey and certify the place where the Chiconcuac sulphurous spring (San Ramon) appeared.
In 1913 Zapata published a manifest declaring to Huerta usurper and unworthy of being in the Presidency of the Republic, and he declared rebel leader, in response to these facts, Robles fired Yecapixtla, Tepalcingo, Villa de Ayala and Xochitepec.

HYDROGRAPHY
The region of the territory covered by the municipality of Xochitepec comprised an average rainfall of 750 to 840 mm. Annual with summer rainfall.
It has Tetlama and Apatlaco rivers; permanent flow streams, the Sábado, the Tlazala, and the Colotepec and springs, San Ramon, Pablo Bolero, Real del Puente, Sports Unit in La Vega Field, between Xochitepec and Atlacholoaya hills.
The municipality has four dams, there are two on the Apatlaco River, they water Real del Puente and Alpuyeca rivers; Tetlama River up to Alpuyeca, it waters the Xoxocotla fields and feeds of water the Tequesquitengo Lake, the salty caudal waters the Vega fields in Xochitepec.
 
NATURAL RESOURCES
                                     


The town has deposits of lime, sand, grit and gravel. It is worth mentioning that the municipality has a municipal Calera, which is stopped because the facilities and machinery are in poor condition.
GASTRONOMY
The traditional is pork white pozole, barbecued goat, fish in tamale of corn leaf and mixiote, in the town of Atlacholoaya is typical handmade seasoned mole with tamales in corn leaf or handmade tortillas.

ECONOMY
 
Agriculture. The city's major crops are sugar cane, rice, onion, grain sorghum, corn, beans, squash, peanuts and tomatoes.

Industry. The municipality's industrial production is minimal, small industry available to the municipality is as follows: block factory, partition wall and pipes, blacksmith, sewing workshop, production of gravel, volcanic rock mines and plastic recycling.

Trade. For the development of internal trade, the municipality has shops of general grocery, stationery and gifts, bakeries, clothing, construction materials, furniture, peleterias, butchers, etc.

Services. The municipality has two three-star hotels and two motels and lodging house.
